Nathan Ake joins Fenerbahce, leaving City with 12 medals
Six seasons, 177 appearances, four league titles and a Champions League — including that Istanbul night at left-back.

Nathan Ake has completed a move to Fenerbahce, subject to international clearance, ending a six-year stay at Manchester City that produced 177 appearances and 12 major honours.
The haul reads absurdly: four Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, two FA Cups, two League Cups, a Community Shield and a UEFA Super Cup. Not bad for a defender who arrived from Bournemouth in August 2020 as squad depth and injury cover.
Fitness problems dogged his first two seasons, though he still contributed to back-to-back titles in 2020/21 and 2021/22 and the Carabao Cup win over Tottenham at Wembley. The turn came in 2022/23, when he played 41 times across the treble and held down left-back through the Champions League run, Istanbul included.
He followed it with a 2023/24 that took in the Super Cup and Club World Cup finals, and a fourth consecutive league title — the first time an English men's side had managed that. He also started the 2024 Community Shield win over United before injuries limited his 2024/25. In his final campaign he was in the side for both the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal and the FA Cup win over Chelsea, and he finished his City career with 10 goals.
“It's been a privilege to represent Manchester City over the past six years and I'm so grateful to have been part of a special team,” Ake said. “I've grown so much here — as a player and a person. I'll always cherish the memories, particularly of winning the Treble.”
Director of football Hugo Viana called him “hugely dependable” and highlighted the versatility that defined him: “Arriving as a centre-back but excelling at left-back, including in our Treble-winning season.” He also pointed to the less visible contribution — a model professional whose standards shaped the environment at the CFA.
